Counselling for International Students
International students (both in secondary schools and colleges/universities) are facing multiple stressors in their lives abroad. Not only are they facing the same significant psycho-social crises in their particular developmental stages as domestic students, but also overwhelmingly encounter personal adjustment challenges due to their newcomer status in specific, such as language barriers, social isolation, cultural shock, homesickness, academic adjustment, and barriers to navigate into supportive resources. These challenges become risk factors to their psychological, mental, emotional, and relational health.
Our psychotherapist had experienced the same challenges of studying abroad, and also accumulated rich cross-cultural counselling experiences in helping international students with:
Academic stress (exam anxiety, performance anxiety, etc.)
Relationships (communication, conflicts, social anxiety, etc.)
Depression (low self-esteem, lack of motivation and direction, etc.)
Emotional regulation (anger issue, loneliness, general anxiety disorder, etc.)
Grief and loss (loss of relational bonds with family, friends, and home-country, etc.)
Acculturative stress
Self-identity and personal goals
